You're probably wondering what you're doing here. So am I. I'm guessing you want an explanation of what's going on and what this is about. I'll try to give you what I can.
A long time ago I had a girlfriend who had the best laugh. Late at night in bed I would try to get her giggling with all sorts of strange ideas and stories. I believe this one started with zombie bunnies with chainsaws. Then our dark humor morphed into other toys with issues trying to get back at the little girl who was playing with them. Sometimes in the middle of the night I would get up and draw them and the next day she would watercolor them. One time she walked into the house and I showed one to her and she fell to the floor laughing. I thought, "If I can keep her laughing I've got it made." As with everything, laughter eventually dies and things come to their inevitable conclusion. I remember the laughter best though.
The ideas stuck around and became a dark story. I asked one of my friends, Trinity, if she wanted to help me with coloring it. I was always a fan of her art and she was really good with watercolors. She really knew how to get the Where the Wild Things Are look I was going for. Sometimes she would come over and color while I inked. She would listen to me complain and discuss my problems. I remember I had no right to even complain around her. She would just give me a look that said, "Go ahead! I've got all the time in the world." Grace. If there was any word to describe her, that was the word. I believe we had done about thirty pages before the cancer finally took her. I showed her the last page and where the the story was going before she passed. She alone knows where this is headed.
Without Trinity to do the colors a lot of this went into the file cabinet collecting dust. Time moved on. We all moved on.
Then one day during the pandemic a friend aptly named Memory asked me, "What ever happened to See Suzy Run? I really liked that." A lot of time had passed and technology had changed too. I could do this all on an iPad and not on actual sheets of watercolor paper. I dug up some of the old stuff and tried my best to mimic what we had started. Instead of trying to make these books I could make this a webcomic. If I tried to make this a book it would take forever knowing me. So, here we are. Eating this whole elephant one bite at a time. Maybe one day I'll get to pull out that final page, color it, and show you.
I think the best way to describe this to you is Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas meets The I Don't Really Care Bears. This is a dark comedy about trauma, drugs, violence, sex and betrayal. How they cope with it and with each other. In all the hilarious ways that they do. Their perspectives on it. What is a normal day to somebody is another's worst day that's a huge payout to their therapist or dealer.
These strips are what is left of a man who would roll over in the middle of the night with a woman and say, "So the zombie bunny raised his chainsaw over his head..."
Because, if I can keep you laughing...
